OUR APPROACH

Diagnose. Test. Resolve.

Rudder & Keel looks beneath visible symptoms, challenges assumptions with evidence, and recommends only the level of intervention the problem has earned.

THE METHOD

The evidence must earn the next investment.

01 • DIAGNOSE

Understand what is actually creating the friction.

We define the question, follow the work, examine source → expression → consequence, challenge alternative explanations, and assess whether the impact is significant enough to warrant action.

Not every difficulty is organizational drag, and not every problem deserves a project.

02 • TEST

Learn before investing heavily.

When uncertainty remains, we establish a baseline and run the smallest responsible test capable of producing meaningful evidence. Guardrails protect what must not be harmed.

Every test ends with a decision: Proceed • Modify • Stop • Inconclusive.

03 • RESOLVE

Implement proportionately. Verify the improvement.

Implementation is not success. We compare results with the baseline, check for relocated drag or unintended consequences, and determine whether the organization can sustain the improvement.

Verification is the completion gate: Resolved • Improved/Monitor • Partially Resolved • Not Resolved.

WHERE ORGANIZATIONAL DRAG SHOWS UP

Time & process

Waiting, searching, duplicate work, approvals, rework, bottlenecks, unclear ownership, handoffs, and workarounds.

Capacity & people

Interruptions, manager overload, role ambiguity, competing priorities, insufficient preparation, weak communication, and change fatigue. People are not automatically the source of drag; behavior may be evidence of drag elsewhere in the system.

Change, AI & technology

Workflow fit, readiness, adoption, training, governance, and whether technology actually releases capacity rather than relocating the burden.

Customer & economic impact

Repeat contacts, delays, errors, lost opportunities, customer effort, labor expense, owner dependence, turnover, and operational risk.

EVIDENCE STANDARD

Experience creates questions. Evidence shapes the answer.

Findings are classified as measured, documented, observed, reported, estimated, or hypothesis. Confidence is stated, contradictory evidence is preserved, and stronger decisions require stronger evidence.

Diagnose • Test • Resolve is currently being field validated. We do not present observation as causation or a working hypothesis as a proven result.
